Episode 1 Movie Club: Ziegfeld Girl (1941)
Welcome to the long awaited, new and improved Movie Club!
In today’s special issue, enjoy our discussion with Words of the Past’s Samantha as we delve into the phenomenon that is “Ziegfeld Girl!”
“Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid.”
- Hedy Lamarr
Today’s the big day! Thank you to everyone who has been so patient as we’ve been busy revamping Movie Club for you all. We went in with the mindset that we wanted to make Movie Club more engaging and inclusive—an immersive experience, not just something you see while scrolling on your phone.
What is Movie Club?
An intimate, cozy girlfriend’s book club meets the movies: Welcome to Movie Club hosted by Classic Hollywood cinephiles Hayley N. Chow and Samantha Mason. Join us every other Thursday as we delve into your favorite silver screen flicks with cocktails and mocktails in hand. Enjoy biweekly quizzes, polls, Movie Club Awards, and more!

What’s Next?
Don’t worry! We will still be keeping our regularly scheduled structure of The Gazette Newsletter, full of Golden Age deep dives and scandalous tales of decades past. Stay tuned for upcoming Gazette issues this fall! We hope you thoroughly enjoy changes we make as we grow and expand. I reiterate once again, all of this would not be possible without your never-ending support.

Film Festivals galore!
Dallas International Film Festival Shorts
What an honor it was to cover the first annual DIFF Shorts! A film festival strictly dedicated to short films. I enjoyed every moment of interviewing filmmakers on the red carpet. Creative conversations with artists are what really nurture my heart and soul, and I am so blessed to have been offered yet another opportunity to work with DIFF.
Fathom Events
It makes my heart soar knowing that many of you have expressed your discovery of Fathom’s Greatest Classics series through history, undressed! We will be partnering with Fathom through the end of the year, so make sure to check our social page regularly for Giveaway announcements to your favorite Classic films!
The Movies
Of course I’ve had my fair share of movie excursions since we’ve last chatted! Screenings I’ve attended as of late include:
♥ 10 Things I Hate About You/In 35 MM (1999)
♥ Rear Window (1954)
♥ The Heiress (1949)
What an experience to be able to attend a screening of “The Heiress” and directly, afterwards, walk upstairs to see Olivia de Havilland’s famous costume in the film! I hope a majority of you were able to attend the Edith Head exhibition this summer that took place in Oklahoma City, as it is a non traveling spectacle. If it was not reasonable for you to attend this time around, I hope that though my coverage, you felt that you could experience the showcase virtually!
Thank You:
Happy fall to you all! I’m looking forward to interacting with you all more often through Movie Club, and for those who have supported me for years when my page was still under the name “Stilettos and Bandaids”, it means the world to me that you still enjoy following along our exploration of fashion and film history.
Coming Up:
Yes, I am working yet another film festival this weekend and I look forward to documenting my journey on our Instagram platform. I am also meeting up with the daughter of a very famous Old Hollywood actress this weekend at a book signing! Any guesses on who this starlet may be? Looking forward to sharing more when I can!
As always, subscribers of The Gazette get early, firsthand information that I don’t share to my page. I’m so happy that you’re here!
Subscribe to follow along, and for more issues, just like this one! Enjoy the gift of continuing education on Old Hollywood!
All my love,
Hayley
